The Opportunity

Veolia ANZ is seeking an experienced Depot Manager to lead our Brooklyn operation in Melbourne. In this highly visible role, you will have accountability for a complex operational footprint, a large waste collection fleet, and a dedicated frontline team.

Stepping into our new operational structure, you will lead our depot across our core pillars: Safety, Service, Culture, Customers, and Cost. Working closely with the broader business leads, your Operations team , frontline leaders and drivers, you will grow our capabilities,  deliver service excellence, improve asset utilisation, and deliver exceptional value for our customers, team and community.

What you'll be responsible for

  • Lead safety and environmental performance, ensuring adherence to SHEQ and NHVR legislation
  • Oversee depot safety protocols, Traffic Management Plans (TMP), and driver compliance
  • Improve route optimisation, asset lifecycle management, and maximum fleet utilisation
  • Identify and execute operational upgrades to improve the daily customer experience
  • Support waste diversion, recycling recovery, and landfill diversion initiatives to meet contractual obligations
  • Build a high-performing team, with a safety-first culture that aligns with the operational strategy
  • Mentor and develop the frontline leaders to establish a strong, capability-driven leadership group
  • Develop team engagement, workforce planning and day-to-day employee concerns, driver matters, and union relations
  • Act as the key contact point to resolve complex customer matters and uplift overall operational performance
  • Maintain strong, trusted partnerships with our national and state-based customers , local regulators, and community stakeholders
  • Own the Brooklyn depot's financial performance, managing budgets, forecasting, and cost control
  • Manage CAPEX allocations and identify continuous improvement goals to improve business margins

What you'll need to be successful

  • 8+ years of senior-level leadership in logistics, transport, waste, or heavy operations. (Tertiary qualifications in Business or Logistics are highly regarded)
  • Strong track record of managing physical assets and large frontline teams
  • Demonstrated financial skills with direct P&L and cost management experience
  • Proven ability to uplift operational performance and develop positive cultural engagement
  • A deep understanding of WHS standards and Australian transport compliance
  • Direct and indirect stakeholder management, influencing, and conflict-resolution capabilities
  • A current Australian Driver Licence
