The Opportunity

Based in Whanganui and reporting to the Operations Manager, this role of Jetter Operator will work and operate a specialised plant (truck) equipped with high-pressure jetting equipment, vacuum system and CCTV inspection equipment. The role is responsible for operating the jetting and vacuum vehicles to clean, maintain and inspect wastewater network infrastructure in order to ensure that safe and reliable wastewater collection services are provided to the Whanganui community.

What you'll be responsible for

Key responsibilities include:

  • Operate the jetter and vacuum plant safely and efficiently to perform various wastewater network maintenance tasks
  • Conduct high-pressure water jetting operations 
  • Operate the vacuum system to remove, transport and dispose of debris, sediment and other foreign material
  • Perform routine (planned) maintenance on wastewater pipes
  • Respond to emergency call-outs and perform urgent (unplanned) maintenance tasks
  • Operate the mini-combo truck and other equipment in support of CCTV inspections and pipe repair / rehabilitation works
  • Perform CCTV inspections of wastewater pipes and visual inspection of manholes
  • Ensure that the  vehicles are appropriately and regularly serviced, maintained, cleaned and daily pre-start inspection of the mini-combo vehicle are completed
  • Communicate effectively with team members, supervisors, and members of the public
  • Contribute to the management of the Health and Safety, Quality and Environmental Management Systems while applying the procedures in all aspects of work and adhere to Veolia’s Business Management System and Quality Policy
  • Undertaking afterhours work when required and participating in an afterhours On-Call roster with a minimum requirement of a 1 - 3 weeks.

What you'll need to be successful

  • Preferred Class 4 licence with Dangerous Goods endorsement (minimum Class 2)
  • Experience operating high-pressure jetting equipment and vacuum systems (preferable). CCTV inspection experience is an advantage but not required, training will be made available
  • Knowledge of wastewater networks, including pipes, manholes and pump station
  • Physical ability to perform the function of the role including lifting heaving equipment, entering confined spaces and long periods of standing, walking, and working in various weather conditions
  • Ability to read and interpret maps, plans and technical documents
  • Good communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills
  • Ability to work efficiently under pressure and in emergency situations
  • Willingness to occasionally work flexible hours, including nights and weekends
  • A good work ethic, self-motivated, and a positive proactive attitude
  • Strong focus on health and safety practices
