The Opportunity
We have an opportunity for an experienced Drainage Operator to join our team in Whanganui. This role is responsible for operating and maintaining wastewater and stormwater networks and to ensure service delivery demonstrates Veolia’s commitment to continuous improvement, innovation and customer service while meeting performance and key performance indicators and applying health and safety procedures.

What you'll be responsible for
Responsibilities include:
-
Maintenance and repair of pipes, blockages and pump stations
-
Installation of new manholes
-
Install and repair Stormwater and Wastewater connections
-
Act as a point of contact for customer requests for service.

Appropriately respond to these in a timely manner, assessing and coordinating remedial action if required

Coordinate and provide contractual reporting to the Client
-
Accurately log all reports and jobs, completing the necessary paperwork and filing where required
-
Be present onsite to oversee contractor activities – this involves working reasonable and regular amounts of overtime, in a variety of weather conditions at multiple locations

Participate in the development and implementation of Capital Works improvement programs

Provide network operations support to the Technical Officer and Supervisor undertaking minor repairs, assisting with major repairs and replacing reticulated pipelines

Positively contribute to the district based operations teams by fostering effective working relationships with field, engineering and management staff, client representatives and customers and suppliers.

Undertake such general duties as required for the effective provision of services to the client and customers
What you'll need to be successful
- An effective communicator who can interact and relate to staff at all levels of the organisation, and the client / customers.
- Willing to establish and maintain working relationships with colleagues for a harmonious team environment
- A self-starter who can work with a high degree of autonomy
- Planning and organisational ability and proven ability to maintain accurate work records
- High degree of personal integrity, a good work ethic and confidence in one's own judgement and capability
- Able to quickly adapt to changing circumstances
- Strong commercial acumen, analytical and problem solving skills along with good literacy and numeracy skills
- Willing to complete further training as required
- Computer literate
- Current driver's licence (preferably with Class 2)
- Ability and willingness to work out of hours when required
- Participation of on-call roster
- Understanding of ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO18001 and Health and Safety legislation.
Preferred:
- National Certificate in Pipeline Maintenance and Construction (preferred)
- Drain laying experience (preferred)
