The Opportunity

Based in Wellington, NZ, the Commercial Manager provides strategic and operational commercial leadership for the Wellington Contract between Veolia and Tiaki Wai, spanning WWTP O&M, capital works, and the Sludge Minimisation Facility, the first of its type in New Zealand.

 

This role optimizes financial performance, mitigates risks, manages variations and payment mechanisms, and fosters commercial acumen across local teams. Reporting to the Contract Manager (Wellington) with a dotted line to the Head of Business Optimisation, the position ensures profitable contract delivery.

 

You’ll lead through influence, partnering closely with stakeholders, demonstrating your abilities in negotiation and stakeholder management skills, with proven track record in contract negotiation, variation management, and dispute resolution

What you'll need to be successful

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Commerce, Law, Engineering, or a related field

  • Minimum 5+ years of experience in commercial management or related role with experience in infrastructure, utilities, water, or construction sectors highly desirable

  • Contract management and commercial law knowledge and experience with complex contractual arrangements

  • Substantial experience and knowledge of various payment mechanisms (including lump sum, cost-reimbursable and hybrid models)

 

Technical Skills

  • Strong commercial acumen with the ability to identify value and manage risk

  • Excellent negotiation and influencing skills

  • High degree of personal integrity and commitment to transparent, ethical conduct

  • Collaborative team player who can also work independently

  • Results-focused with strong attention to detail
