The Opportunity
We're looking for a dedicated Water and Wastewater Infrastructure Operator to join our Operations team in Wanaka. This is a hands-on role where you'll play a vital part in maintaining the infrastructure that keeps our community's water flowing and wastewater managed safely and efficiently.
You'll work across our network assets, performing maintenance, troubleshooting issues, and responding to operational challenges with expertise and professionalism. If you're a self-starter who takes pride in keeping essential services running, we want to hear from you.

What you'll be responsible for
Core Responsibilities:
- Maintain all reticulation infrastructure and network assets through planned, routine, and breakdown maintenance
- Perform fault-finding and repairs on water mains (25mm-550mm) and wastewater infrastructure (100mm-550mm)
- Operate excavators, small trucks, and other plant equipment to undertake repairs
- Identify and escalate operational problems within appropriate timeframes
- Participate in the on-call duty operator roster to support 24/7 service delivery
- Collaborate effectively with internal staff, subcontractors, and temporary labour
- Contribute to maintaining high standards in Health & Safety, Quality Assurance, and Environmental Management
- Adhere to Veolia's Integrated Business Management System and all relevant procedures
- Undertake required regulatory and role-specific on-the-job training
- Support general operational duties as required
What you'll need to be successful
Experience:
- Proven experience with water mains and wastewater infrastructure systems
- Background in the water/wastewater industry or civil construction
- Basic understanding of heavy equipment operation
- Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain strong working relationships with colleagues and contractors
- Proven problem-solving skills with practical methodologies

Qualifications:
- Combination of relevant education, training, and industry experience
- Associated industry qualifications (valued)
