The Opportunity
Are you an experienced engineer ready to take ownership of critical water and wastewater infrastructure? Veolia Water NZ is seeking a talented Asset and Project Engineer to join our team delivering Operations & Maintenance contract in Central Hawke's Bay.
This is a pivotal role where you'll be the primary Veolia contact for the Central Hawke's Bay District Council Project Delivery Team — bridging the gap between project delivery and operational asset management to ensure infrastructure performs at its best throughout its entire lifecycle.
You'll manage projects from initiation through to closure, oversee asset management activities, and lead multidisciplinary teams across mechanical, civil, process, and electrical disciplines.
No two days will be the same. One day you could be preparing senior management approval documentation for project funding; the next, you're on-site liaising with contractors, tracking earned value analysis, or driving quality and environmental compliance.

What you'll be responsible for
- Serving as the primary liaison between Veolia and the CHBDC Project Delivery Team
- Managing end-to-end project delivery — from initiation and planning through to closure
- Overseeing the seamless handover of assets into operational management, including VAMS systems integration
- Leading procurement activities and preparing best-practice contractual documentation
- Monitoring budgets and programme performance through Earned Value Analysis and Gantt chart reporting
- Managing projects up within time and budget constraints
- Contributing to Health, Safety, Quality and Environmental Management Systems
- Leading and coordinating multidisciplinary project teams
What you'll need to be successful
Qualifications:
- Diploma or Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical or Process preferred)
Experience:
- 10+ years in a water or wastewater project environment
- Proven design, construction and project management experience
- Familiarity with at least one project delivery methodology (PMI, Prince2 or Agile)
- Demonstrated ability to work across multiple engineering disciplines
- Experience managing projects in a client/customer-facing environment
- Sound understanding of business and contracting models
