The Woodlawn Bioreactor Landfill is a world class and best practice landfill and biogas extraction facility managing 40% of Sydney's municipal waste. Containerised waste is transported from Sydney via rail and loaded onto trucks for the final part of the journey to the Woodlawn site. The waste is then landfilled and biogas capture is managed to optimise gas creation. This gas is captured and delivered to the Bioenergy Plant where it is then used to power 7 large scale industrial power generation engines. The electricity produced is then used in the power network as renewable energy.

The Opportunity

Join the Veolia Woodlawn team as our Wastewater Treatment Technician to operate and maintain our wastewater treatment assets, ensuring safe and compliant operations. In this role you’ll control quality across environmental and operational activities and coordinate with contractors here at the Reverse Osmosis Plant.

What you'll be responsible for

• Operate and maintain the Temporary Reverse Osmosis Plant (TROP) using SCADA/HMI systems in coordination with the bioreactor landfill team. Perform onsite testing, troubleshooting as well as preventative and corrective maintenance tasks
• Review, optimise and maintain accurate asset records using the Veolia Asset Management System (VAMS). Generate operational, maintenance, log and compliance documentation while managing associated budgets 
• Provide regular performance, condition and budget reports to Woodlawn Management and operations teams. Coordinating planning processes with the management team and monitor team performance with constructive feedback
• Manage contractor works and safety using the Permit to Work system in accordance with Veolia NIMS. Ensuring all administrative and purchasing requirements are met and environmental compliance notifications are completed
• Comply with all site safety policies and procedures, prepare Job Safety Analysis worksheets, conduct risk assessments, handle chemicals safely and maintain a clean and safe work area with proper equipment monitoring
• Build and maintain strong relationships with Woodlawn staff, external parties and other Veolia employees such as attending site meetings, facilitate communication across teams and proactively help improve TROP Key Performance Indicators

What you'll need to be successful

• Engineering Degree in Process/Chemical Engineering or science relevant field (desirable)
• Project management experience (desirable)
• Water / wastewater treatment systems experience ideally with a membrane biological reactor (MBR) and reverse osmosis operations experience (desirable)
• 3+ years working experience in operating and maintaining MBR and Reverse osmosis systems 
• Experience with Industrial PLC/SCADA systems, establishing trends and data extraction
• Demonstrated experience in environmental compliance including regulatory agency interactions
• Effective written and verbal communication skills
• Effective interpersonal skills, including ability to clarify, time manage, resolve issues and make decisions
• Strong analytical skills, high attention to detail and ability to meet tight deadlines consistently
• Ability to establish and maintain ongoing effective relationships
• Ability to assess situations and determine the importance, urgency and risks, and make clear decisions which are timely and in the best interests of Veolia.
• Knowledge and understanding of WHS legislation and regulations specific to the area of work
• Experience with Microsoft Office, Word, Excel and knowledge of asset management systems
• Driver’s license (required)
