The Opportunity


Veolia ANZ is seeking a Plant Manager to join our team based at Woodlawn, 45 minutes north of Canberra at the Veolia Woodlawn Eco-Precinct. In this role you will be responsible for the overall management of the Woodlawn Mechanical Biological Treatment plant (MBT), which treats municipal waste to extract organics to be composted for beneficial reuse. This process consists of mechanically turning the waste through large waste drums to separate organics and other reusable products for further mechanical and biological processing and compost production. The plant currently processes 144,000 tonnes of waste annually. The MBT also processes 15,000 tonnes of garden and household food waste (FOGO) for composting with further plans for expansion. You will be a part of and supported by the larger Woodlawn Eco-Precinct team consisting of the Woodlawn Bioreactor landfill, Woodlawn Bioenergy Plant and Leachate Treatment Plant.

What you'll be responsible for

 

  • Overseeing all aspects of site operational management including staff, processing, systems, maintenance,  safety and compliance
  • visible leadership and commitment to ensure efficient, cost-effective and profitable operations that are safe and compliant
  • Compliance with legal and regulatory requirements relating to OH&S, EPA, DPIE  and transport
  • Manage your site team to ensure objectives and targets are met and to create a workplace culture that is enjoyable, compliant, safe and productive.
  • Prepare Budget and CAPEX proposals, manage cost within the budget and financial reporting 
  • Overseeing the implementation of preventative and repair maintenance programmes to ensure minimal downtime and the smooth running of the plant at all times.
     

What you'll need to be successful

 

  • Bachelor of Engineering  (Process/chemical/Environmental/Mechanical/Electrical Engineering) or equivalent/relevant qualification such as Business, project or logistics management.
  • Proven leadership experience in processing plant management or similar enterprise
  • The ability to build strong resilient teams through clear communication and setting high standards and high levels of trust within your working group
  • Strong stakeholder management skills in building strong and effective relationships with key internal and external stakeholders
  • Good financial management skills 
  • Experience in solid waste processing,organics processing and/or wastewater treatment - highly regarded 
  • Demonstrable experience in project management - desirable
