Title:  Leading Hand Mechanic

Spreyton, TAS, AU, 7310

The Opportunity

In this role you will be responsible for coordinating functions and carrying out service and maintenance within the Spreyton workshop and in the field to ensure the completion of jobs in accordance with safety and environmental standards, customer expectations and performance targets. This is a permanent, full-time role based in our workshop in Spreyton, Tasmania 7310.

What you'll be responsible for

  • Pro-actively monitor and supervise the operations within your area of responsibility in accordance with relevant regulations, policy and procedure

  • Implement recommendations and/or instructions of Supervisor

  • Actively promote and maintain safe operational standards in the workplace 

  • Assist in the operational management of the work area

  • Maintain an effective relationship with direct supervisor, reporting employees, other leading hands, operational staff and administration staff

  • Ensure  is kept informed of issues that may impact on operations or profitability

  • Complete service forms, brake forms and other paperwork accurately and legibly in accordance with Veolia guidelines

  • Maintain effective working relationships with team members

  • Raise all work related concerns and issues 

  • Carry out preventive maintenance and repairs on all types of vehicles, bodies and equipment from all types of manufactures 

  • Supervision and training of apprentices

What you'll need to be successful

  • Heavy Vehicle/Heavy Machinery Mechanic trade qualification
  • Drivers licence
  • Truck licence (HR licence desirable but not mandatory)
  • Experience in similar role (desirable but not mandatory)
  • Fleet management knowledge
  • Organisational skills and customer service mindset
  • Collaborative problem-solving skills
