The Opportunity

Veolia is seeking an experienced and motivated STMS – Traffic Management Operator to join our Queenstown team.

This role is responsible for delivering safe, efficient and high-quality traffic management services for reactive and programmed works across the region. You will work closely with the Traffic Management Coordinator, Traffic Management Team Leader and operational teams to coordinate resources, meet contractual requirements and support the successful delivery of network inspection, CCTV and jetting programmes.

What you'll be responsible for

As an STMS – Traffic Management Operator, you will:

• Deliver traffic management programmes on time and to the required quality and industry standards.
• Manage traffic management requirements for CCTV, jetting and other programmed works.
• Coordinate activities to maximise equipment and resource utilisation and minimise downtime.
• Liaise with the Traffic Management Coordinator and Team Leader to allocate assets and resources effectively.
• Ensure traffic management requirements for network inspections and operational activities are met.
• Work collaboratively with other Veolia departments to support scheduling and contractual obligations.
• Monitor programme performance and identify opportunities to improve scheduling, resource allocation and service delivery.
• Provide a professional, customer-focused service while working across local roads and state highways.
• Occasionally work night shifts to meet network operational requirements.

What you'll need to be successful

To be successful in this role, you will have:

• A current and relevant STMS qualification.
• At least three years’ experience in traffic management operations.
• A sound understanding of New Zealand traffic management requirements for local councils.
• An understanding of traffic management requirements for state highway governing bodies.
• Experience delivering traffic management services in a client or customer-facing environment.
• The ability to understand and adapt to changing traffic management requirements.
• The ability to use traffic management tools and equipment appropriately.
• Strong communication, coordination and relationship-building skills.
• Sound analytical, problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
• The confidence to exercise sound judgement and work with a high degree of autonomy.
• A proactive, “getting things done” approach and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
• A strong commitment to safety, quality and customer service.
• The flexibility to work occasional night shifts when required.
