The Opportunity

Veolia is seeking an experienced Traffic Management Operator (TMO) to join our team in Queenstown.

In this role, you will deliver traffic management activities for reactive and programmed works across the region, supporting CCTV and jetting operations. Working closely with the Traffic Management Coordinator and Traffic Management Team Leader, you will help ensure traffic management activities are delivered safely, efficiently, on time and to the required industry standards.

What you'll be responsible for

You will be responsible for coordinating and delivering traffic management programmes that support Veolia’s operational teams and meet client and contractual requirements across local roads and state highways.

Key responsibilities include:

• Delivering traffic management programmes for CCTV, jetting and other operational works.
• Coordinating schedules to maximise equipment and resource utilisation and minimise downtime.
• Liaising with the Traffic Management Coordinator and Team Leader to allocate assets and resources effectively.
• Ensuring traffic management requirements are met in a timely manner across the operational programme.
• Communicating with internal teams to align schedules and support cross-departmental coordination.
• Monitoring programme performance and identifying opportunities to improve scheduling, resource allocation and technical delivery.
• Ensuring all work is completed in accordance with Veolia’s safety, health, environmental and quality requirements.
• Providing a professional, customer-focused service when working with clients and stakeholders.
• Working occasional night shifts when required to meet network operational needs.

What you'll need to be successful

To be successful in this role, you will have:

• A recognised Traffic Management Operator (TMO) qualification.
• 1–2 years’ experience in traffic management operations.
• An understanding of New Zealand traffic management requirements for local councils.
• An understanding of traffic management requirements for state highways and relevant governing bodies.
• Experience delivering traffic management services in a client or customer-facing environment.
• The ability to learn and adapt to changing traffic management requirements.
• The ability to safely use traffic management tools and equipment.
• Strong communication, planning and problem-solving skills.
• The confidence to use your own judgement and work with a high degree of autonomy.
• A proactive, solutions-focused approach and a commitment to getting the job done.
• A strong focus on quality, safety and customer service.
• The flexibility to work occasional night shifts.
