Title:  Lead Data Engineer

The Opportunity

Veolia ANZ is seeking an experienced Lead Data Engineer to join our Data Management Office. In this role you will spearhead innovation, design, and expertise within the data engineering and digital disciplines in a fast-growing organisation.

This is a permanent full-time role based in Pyrmont.

What you'll be responsible for

• Collaborate across teams to deliver complex data solutions and optimise workflows through automation
• Define data architecture, design data models, map data flows, and develop information marts for new data sources
• Develop ETL pipelines, data warehouses, and data lakes aligned with global and ANZ strategies
• Provide design/architecture guidance to project teams, including reviews of data models, pipeline designs, and implementation plans
• Mentor engineers and uplift team capability across Snowflake, Coalesce, and modern data engineering practice
• Collaborate with Data Governance, Security, and Infrastructure teams to align with enterprise controls (RBAC, PII handling, auditability)
  
  

What you'll need to be successful

• Tertiary qualifications in Computer Science or Data Science
• Strong stakeholder management skills with the ability to translate between engineering, architecture, and business teams
• Min 10 years relevant experience
• Data warehousing, Data Vault modeling, CI/CD principles
• Solid Cloud & database proficiency (AWS ecosystem, Snowflake, SQL/NoSQL databases)
• Data integration & programming (Coalesce, , SQL, Python, Java/Scala)
• Knowledge of data lineage, metadata, data quality, reconciliation, and visualization tools (Tableau)
• Experience in a leadership or managerial role
