The Opportunity


As Veolia’s Head of Government Relations, you will be responsible for setting and executing our policy agenda in Australia and New Zealand.  With a deep understanding of the political and regulatory landscape and a strong network of stakeholders across government, industry and academia, you will ensure Veolia is seen as a key stakeholder on policy issues relating to the environment and critical infrastructure. This role will also drive engagement with key industry associations, ensuring that Veolia remains an active industry participant, positively contributing to discussions that impact our business.

What you'll be responsible for

 

  • Lead the design and execution of Veolia’s government affairs strategy and campaigns in Australia and New Zealand, aligning them with business strategy;
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with government, intergovernmental organisations, academia, industry, and customers and non-profits on areas of shared interests and represent Veolia’s views and values on relevant policy issues;
  • Anticipate and manage emerging issues and risks related to Veolia’s corporate, environmental and societal impact across Australia and New Zealand, advising the relevant local, regional, and global teams on how to manage these risks from a key stakeholder perspective;
  • Work with experts from inside and outside the company, to help understand and resolve legal and regulatory issues that affect Veolia’s business strategy;
  • Work with the broader Communications & Marketing team to create internal and external communications plans for stakeholders on policy updates, and key infrastructure development projects.
     

What you'll need to be successful

 

  • A substantial record of  relevant work experience (10-15 years) in government affairs, public affairs, public policy, or a related field, and a bachelor's or preferably advanced degree in journalism, public policy, political science, law, or another relevant field;
  • Proven track record of building and maintaining relationships with senior government officials, policy makers, industry partners, and other key stakeholders;
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully influence Senior Stakeholders (including CEO, Executive Leadership team members, Community Groups  and Political Organisations ) to achieve optimum business outcomes;
  • Demonstrated experience in Crisis Stakeholder Management;
  • Experience in managing or influencing Internal communications strategy and performance.
