The Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Team Leader to oversee the delivery and planning of waste management services for our Bluescope Steel contract. This role requires a hands-on leader who will ensure safe, cost-effective service delivery while managing team operations, maintaining quality standards, and coordinating daily activities. You'll serve as the key point of contact with the client, addressing their waste management needs across solid waste and by-products operations. This is an integral position involving day-to-day contract management and team leadership to meet customer requirements and operational excellence.

What you'll be responsible for

  • Lead and promote safety, environmental, and quality standards through visible leadership, conducting pre-starts and toolboxes, and investigating all incidents to drive a strong safety culture within the team

  • Ensure all team members are adequately trained, qualified, and competent to perform their duties safely and responsibly without risk to health, quality, or the environment

  • Maintain effective working relationships with internal teams and Bluescope Steel stakeholders, acting in accordance with Veolia Values and partnering with customers to understand and meet their needs

  • Provide technical advice and assistance to customers, maintaining strong client relationships and addressing their waste management requirements

  • Manage team development including tracking training requirements for new starters and existing members, coaching and mentoring staff, and recognizing those who exemplify Veolia values

What you'll need to be successful

  • Proven leadership experience in Industrial Services within heavy industry, with strong people management capabilities and the ability to coach, develop, and drive team performance

  • Demonstrated ability to drive safety behaviour and culture, with Cert IV in Workplace Health and Safety highly desirable (or willingness to obtain)

  • Excellent problem-solving, decision-making, and process improvement skills with strong financial and commercial acumen

  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills with the ability to build relationships, influence, and negotiate with internal stakeholders across all organizational levels and key customer contacts

  • Strong attention to detail with proven ability to prioritize, multitask, and manage competing demands effectively

  • Recognition and reward mindset, actively identifying and celebrating team members who exemplify company values and deliver results

  • Valid Driver's Licence and full working rights in Australia required
