We are looking for an Assistant Accountant to join our Finance Team.  Reporting to the Manager - Financial Accounting your main task will be to ensure all accounting records are processed and maintained, up to date, intuitive and user friendly for other users.  You will be supporting all financial accounting aspects including but not limited to Inland Revenue compliance, statutory reporting, month end reporting, ad hoc reconciliations and projects.

Some key responsibilities:

  • Process monthly bank reconciliations for all NZ business units
  • Ensure all trade debtor accounts are reconciled, and debtor aging is monitored and communicating with business units.  Assist with collection where necessary.
  • Preparation of monthly GST, FBT, and NRWT returns for the NZ business to review stage
  • Support the Finance team in all payment aspects (and internal controls) including supporting the Accounts Payable team when required
  • Prepare and process standard month end journals and any other specific journals for monthly reporting
  • Prepare month end balance sheet workpapers under direct supervision of the reporting manager.
  • Assist with specific month end reports set by reporting manager for the teams reporting requirements;
  • Work with Contract Managers to ensure data quality within relevant systems and accuracy of information

Key qualifications, experience and skills of the successful applicant include:

  • Appropriate tertiary degree/Diploma in Business
  • Minimum 2-3 years experience in the financial accounting process, reporting and an awareness of internal controls
  • Working knowledge of business operations, communications and how to work within a team
  • Proactive and self-motivated; able to prioritise tasks and manage time efficiently
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Experience with preparing NZ tax compliance (GST, FBT etc) and applicable IRD returns would be beneficial
  • Experience with spreadsheets, data filtering/analysis
  • SAP knowledge/experience or other ERP systems is preferable, but not a requirement
