The Opportunity
Reporting to the Asset Manager (Papakura) or delegate, the Drain Layer (Papakura) is responsible for the delivery of wastewater network maintenance, repair and rehabilitation works across Veolia’s Papakura Franchise operations, in order to deliver safe and reliable wastewater collection services to the Papakura community. The Drain Layer is responsible for the day-to-day supervision and on-the-job training and mentoring of an Apprentice Drain Layer. The position plays a key role in maintaining the integrity and performance of the Papakura wastewater network.

What you'll need to be successful
Qualifications and Licenses
- Recognised drain laying qualification
- Full NZ driver’s licence (Class 2 and WTR endorsements preferred)
Experience
- A proven track record in drain laying, wastewater network maintenance and/or civil construction works
- Demonstrated experience in dig-up repair and relay of wastewater mains and associated
- infrastructure
- Experience in manhole repair and replacement works
- Experience in I&I detection works (smoke testing, dye testing) an advantage
- Previous experience supervising or mentoring apprentices or junior staff preferred
- Knowledge of wastewater networks including pipes, manholes and pump stations
Skills and Attributes include:
- Confident ability to read and interpret engineering plans, drawings and technical specifications
- Experience in materials management including placing orders with suppliers and managing stock levels
- Physically fit and capable of performing manual labour in varying field and weather conditions, including lifting heavy equipment and working in confined spaces
- Ability to read and interpret maps, plans and technical documents
- Self-motivated, positive, proactive attitude, strong work ethic and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team
- An effective communicator who demonstrates a willingness to establish and maintain positive working relationships
- Good planning, time management and organisational ability and proven ability to maintain accurate work records and documentation
- Willingness to work flexible hours including after-hours as required
- Willing to complete further training and development as required
- Understanding of relevant Health and Safety legislation and environmental obligations
