The Opportunity

 

Ready to lead real change? As a Senior Process Operations Engineer, you'll lead the optimisation of a world class mine water treatment operation that powers critical infrastructure while protecting our environment.

 

Reporting to the Operations Manager at our Springvale facility near Lithgow, you'll take ownership of process assessment, optimisation, and continuous improvement for a facility that treats contaminated coalmine wastewater and purifies it for reuse as industrial cooling water at Mount Piper Power Station—which supplies approximately 15% of NSW's power.

 

This is a hands on technical leadership position where your expertise will directly impact operational efficiency, environmental outcomes, and the sustainability of critical NSW infrastructure.

What you'll be responsible for

 

  • Assess and maintain water and wastewater quality to meet contractual, health, environmental, and legislative standards
  • Optimise plant processes through data analysis and innovative troubleshooting, driving continuous improvement
  • Lead process reviews and investigations, responding to incidents with technical expertise
  • Mentor and guide operations and technical teams, sharing your knowledge to build capability
  • Champion sustainability initiatives—reducing chemical and energy usage as part of our Green Up Net Zero commitment
  • Provide technical support to business development, including plant design reviews and process modelling
  • Engage with industry forums to stay at the forefront of water and wastewater engineering innovation
  • Ensure compliance with quality management systems and regulatory requirements

What you'll need to be successful

 

  • Tertiary qualification in Chemical Engineering or equivalent
  • Proven experience in advanced water or wastewater treatment operations or similar process operations
  • Strong technical skills in water quality assessment, process optimisation, and troubleshooting
