The Opportunity

Veolia ANZ is currently looking for a Chemist to join the team at the Brooklyn site in Victoria. This role is an exciting, full time opportunity for a Graduate Chemist or someone who has a degree and some experience working in an industrial lab / environment.

As the Chemist on site you would be ensuring the safe, compliant and efficient processing of waste materials through the Brooklyn Technical Waste facility. There would be a lot of variety within this role and would require someone who is happy to get their hands dirty as it would involve testing samples such as contaminated soil, sludges, etc…

This would be a semi-autonomous role as you would be the only chemist on site, however you would be fully supported by the Site Management team and would be engaging with other members of the Operations team on site.

You’ll need:

  • Degree in Chemistry
  • Relevant industry experience / transferable practical experience
  • Manual Handling / Dangerous Goods
  • Risk Management – Hazard & Risk Identification
  • Equity and Diversity Training
  • Spill Response Training (desirable)
  • Hazardous Substances  (desirable)
  • Working knowledge of EPA and City West Water Regulatory Requirements  (desirable)
  • Self motivated
  • Quick Learner
  • Team player but can also work autonomously

In this role, you’ll discover:

  • Great people... and a company that cares

From your teammates to colleagues and partners across Veolia, you’ll find people who care about doing a good job. And you’ll belong in a company that truly cares - about the customer, the community, the environment... and you.

  • ‘Team’ works here - it’s who we are

Reporting to the Senior Chemical Engineer, you’ll work on site alongside other members of the Operations Team. You’ll learn from your team mates, as much as they’ll learn from you.

  • Stimulation and challenge, delivered

While ‘Operations’ is about process and rhythm, you’ll find plenty of variety in your role. In addition to being the site Chemist you’ll play a key role in maintaining a robust safety culture and identifying more efficient ways of working that don’t compromise safety or quality.

  • Opportunity and growth, there for the taking

In this role, you’ll be trained across a number of concrete skills for the job in hand. Many of our Chemists have continued to progress their career with us, moving into a variety of roles across the business.
