In this nationally focused role, you will report to the Australia and New Zealand General Manager of Safety Health Quality and Training (SHQT) + Environment (E) and provide health and safety leadership to your direct reports, operational leaders and customers in the water and wastewater sectors in New Zealand. You will work closely with the ANZ General Manager Environment, NZ Country Director and their management team on SHQT+E related matters, to deliver the SHQT+E strategy and promote safety excellence and performance through engagement, training, investigation, audit and continuous improvement.  

You will be an important member of Veolia’s SHQT+E leadership team with peers supporting our waste, Water, and Industrial Services’ Lines of business plus Injury Prevention and Health and SHQT+E Strategy and Improvement.

What you'll be responsible for

  • Provide leadership and direction to a small team of direct reports and drive SHQT+E compliance and performance across our New Zealand Operations
  • Implement and monitor SHQT+E systems, including field engagement, audits, inspections, and risk assessments
  • Facilitate the maintenance of SHQT+E management plans, training programs, and safety procedures
  • Facilitate incident investigations and emergency management training
  • Lead our Always Safe Culture program across our New Zealand operations
  • Analyse and report on SHQT+E performance, identifying high-risk factors and improvement opportunities
     

What you'll need to be successful

  • Operational Health, Safety and Environmental compliance experience across multiple sites with a focus on high risk activities such as high pressure water jetting, confined spaces, isolations, and working at height is essential. 
  • Knowledge of OH&S regulations with qualifications is essential 
  • Demonstrated experience implementing safety systems and influencing a diverse workforce
  • Auditing qualification and experience
  • Root cause analysis investigations (ICAM)
  • Problem-solving abilities, with a strong focus on customer service and teamwork
  • Advanced communication skills (both written and verbal), and the ability to prepare reports and documentation efficiently
